A limit for the time spent on retries can be specified.

Versioning: this feature enables you to keep multiple older versions of each file in the backup. There are several naming schemes available. See also Versioning / Filename Mangling.

Partial File Updating (or delta copying): this feature copies only the changed portions of files in order to speed up the synchronization. See the Partial File Updating documentation

Database-safe mode: This mode requires exclusive access to the files to be copied. If exclusive access is not possible, Volume Shadowing is used, or the program will wait until the exclusive access becomes possible.

Can Use Recycle Bin for older versions of files that are overwritten, as well as for deleted files. This is a fairly unique feature because most programs will permanently replace older versions of a file. Using Super Flexible File Synchronizer, you will have a chance of retrieving overwritten files if you select the appropriate options.

File Masks and Filters. Numerous ways to select/deselect files and folders are available.

Daylight Savings Time / Time Zones. Since exact hour time differences can be ignored if the file size matches, you won't have any more problems if the file systems of two computers are off by one hour, or even several hours. Whenever possible, UTC (world time) is used to compare the timestamps of files.

Easy Resuming On Disk Full. You simply make more space and ask the software to continue copying. It can pause right in the middle of a file until additional space is freed.

Obsolete File Folders. If you occasionally move obsolete files to a specially designated folder, this usually causes trouble with traditional file synchronizers. They will copy the obsolete files back from your laptop right into the folders where you moved them out of. No longer! If you use the Select Folders and Files option, you can specify folders for obsolete files using the right mouse button. These folders are then taken into account for moving files into them, but not for copying files out. Thus, the synchronizer does the same moving of obsolete files on your laptop that you previously did on the PC, but it does not waste any time copying all obsolete files between the two machines.

New Features In Version 5

Differential Versioning Backup

You can now combine Partial File Updating with Versioning, Zipping and Encryption and use it with any backup storage location, including FTP and other Internet Protocols.

Checkboxes to choose:

- tab sheet Special: "Partial File Updating" (without Remote Service)

- tab sheet Zipping: "Zip Each File Individually"

The option "Filename Encoding" on the Versioning tab sheet is automatically active in this use case.

The Zip file sizes can now be limited too so that large files can be split (only in conjunction with Partial File Updating). The transfer can be stopped any time and zip parts already uploaded won't be lost.

Be sure to keep all zip files on the destination as they may all be needed to reassemble the file upon restore. Any older version can be restored by choosing the desired target date in the Restore Wizard, or by right-clicking the file in the Sync Preview and choosing the desired version. The option "Keep multiple files" is implied and does not need to be checked. It cannot be used to limit the number of older versions. All older versions must be kept on the backup.

A method to limit the number of older files that need to be kept on the backup storage is currently being developed and suggestions on the best strategy are welcome.

Block-level copying is applied to files which are at least 400,000 bytes in size. The granularity of the differential backup is determined dynamically for each file, based on its size. The smallest block size used will be 2048 bytes.

Each partial backup includes an MD5 checksum for each file, so that restored files can be verified to be 100% correct. You can see this in the file MD5.TXT that the partial zips contain.

Google Chrome OS

The public debut of Google Chrome OS today has the press abuzz over the potential of the new web-based operating system. And now that it's open sourced, you have the chance to try it out for yourself. Unfortunately, most people aren't ready to undertake the daunting task of actually taking Google's recently open-sourced code and turning that into a bootable computer. So we've put together a step-by-step guide to doing this, for free, in around 15 minutes (depending on how long it takes to download the OS itself). No, this won't get your computer booting Chrome OS natively (and frankly, you probably wouldn't want to yet anyway). But it will get it up and running in a virtual machine using the free software VirtualBox, which is available for Macs, PCs, and Linux.

First, you need to get an image of Chrome OS, download it from links bellow. When you'll download it, you'll see it's in a .BZ2 format. You'll need to extract it. Macs should be able to do this automatically, but for Windows you may need a tool like WinRar.

Once that's done, download a version of VirtualBox for whatever OS you're running on here and install it. After registering (or declining to) you'll be met with a screen like this. Click the button that says "New" in the upper left hand corner. We're going to be making a new virtual machine.:

You'll enter a wizard like this. Hit next.

Go ahead and title the OS whatever you'd like. For the operating system, choose Linux, with Ubuntu as the version (other setups could potentially work, but this is the only one we've gotten working).

Choose how much memory to allocate to this virtual machine. This will be dependent on how much memory you have in your computer. The more, the better, but if you choose too much your real computer will become unstable/very slow.

Here's the tricky part (fortunately it isn't very tricky). You don't want to create a new hard disk, instead, you want to use an existing hard disk. Don't choose one from the drop down menu either — you're going to want to hit the folder icon just to the right of that to enter the 'virtual media manager'.

Hit the 'Add' button.

Now you have to find the Chrome OS image you downloaded earlier. This is probably on your desktop or in your downloads folder. Once you've found it, hit 'Open'.

Hit 'Select' once you reach this window.

Almost there. Make sure 'use existing hard disk' is checked. Hit next.

Hit 'Finish'

You're done! Hit Start. Hopefully the screen will go black, but only for a little while (this could be anywhere from 10 seconds to a minute or so, depending on how fast your computer is).

Once you're in, you'll see a splash screen for 'Chromium' (which is what Google calls dev builds of Chrome). To login, you'll need to enter a valid Google Account ID. Your standard Gmail account should work, but as we said before, this build of ChromeOS came from bittorrent, so you may want to use a throw away account like we did in the screenshots below (you can make one here).http://mail.google.com/mail/signup

You're in. Now time to explore. To be honest, everything looks quite similar to Google's Chrome browser, but there are a few key differences. Note the battery life indicator and options menu in the far upper right. Also try playing around with the 'New Window' functions — you'll find that it's difficult (if not impossible) to navigate between multiple windows. And be wary of the Bookmarks manager. As far as I can tell, there's no easy way to get out of it — you'll have to manually create a new bookmark, which will kick you back into the browser mode once you click it. Oh, and good luck finding the 'shut down' button, because we sure can't.

iPhoneBrowser is a Windows based file browser for your iPhone. It features drag and drop uploading to your phone, automatic and manual backups of files on your phone, previews of text and picture files and very cool icons.

Your LightScribe product manufacturer will have the best knowledge of your specific configuration and needs, and they are recommended as your first source of updates whenever possible.

This limited support universal version of the LightScribe System Software offered here has not been specifically tested by your hardware provider, and is provided as an alternative should you have problems with obtaining an update.

This software package will install the LSS on a new system or update an older version.

INSTRUCTIONS

DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL
You must either be logged into an account with Administrator privileges or have the Administrator password to complete the installation.
Save your work and close down all active programs, especially any labeling applications.
Click on the above file download link.
Read and acknowledge the software licensing agreement.
Choose "Run" to start the file download and update process.

If you are on a slower dial-up connection, you may want to "Save" the update file to an easily found directory instead, and then run it separately. This will bypass the need to re-download the file should your update process get interrupted. This file may be safely deleted after the update process has been completed successfully.

You may need to accept alert message boxes from your browser, Windows, or other security programs.

Also check the security alert bar below the address box on your browser to allow the update file to be downloaded. You may need to click the message bar and allow the file to download.

Depending on your internet connection speed, the update file may take a few minutes to download, so please be patient.

Accept any Windows security alert windows and choose "Run".

Once the Update file is initiated, follow any instructions that may appear on your screen. You may also need to acknowledge the completion of the installation by clicking "Okay" or "Allow".

If prompted, you may need to restart your computer for your update to take effect.

You may review the installed getting started content (localized in many languages depending on the native language of your computer) by either clicking the installed LightScribe desktop icon or go to Start/Programs/LightScribe Direct Disc Labeling/Getting Started. The desktop icon can be easily deleted or dragged to the trash can, and future LSS updates will skip the desktop icon installation.

USING THE LIGHTSCRIBE CONTROL PANEL
The LightScribe System Software installation includes an application that allows you to customize your LightScribe settings and to monitor your system Information. Locate and double click the LightScribe icon in the System Tray in the lower right corner of your Window.

If you do not see a LightScribe System Icon, click on "Start", "Programs," then Locate the LightScribe program group.
